My Email Was Hacked! Now What?

Three Ways to Prevent a Phishing Attack

Have you ever received a call or email from a friend that says, “hey, my email has been hacked, don’t click that link”.

Well, we received that same call the other day.

    What we found was…

    1. The end user was no longer receiving email
    2. There were rules in place to move the email to the deleted folder
    3. Thousands of emails have been sent out to family, friends and co-workers, requesting they “Click a link to receive an Important file from SharePoint”.

This is what we can call a Phishing Attack!

So, what can you do to prevent this from happening to you? Here are three tips:

Number One: Implement Cyber Security Training and Dark Web Scanning

The CSI will provide your employees with the knowledge they need to avoid these types of phishing emails. The Dark web scanning will continuously scan and alert when there is a potential breach.

    Number Two: Implement Multi-Factor Authentication.

If you’re using Office 365, this is an easy fix. Get with your IT department or your Managed Service Provider, and have them set that up for you.

Number Three: Implement a Password Policy.

Make sure that you and your employees are forced to use a long complex password which is scheduled to change on a regular basis. If you have a hard time keeping track of these passwords, there are APP’s that can help you store them in one place.
